Everton 0-3 Spurs – Player ratings

Everton slumped to a very disappointing defeat as they were simply outclassed by a very impressive Tottenham side. Ronald Koeman was out thought by his opposite number in a game when Everton could very easily have lost by 5 or 6 goals. Player ratings are listed below.

Jordan Pickford ⭐️⭐️ (all ratings out of five)
Although he was not solely to blame, Pickford was at fault for the first two goals and after a good start to his Everton career has endured a couple of difficult games. Has a great future but there is still room for significant improvement.

Leighton Baines ⭐️⭐️
Had little impact going forward and like the rest of the back four was overrun by the Spurs midfield.

Michael Keane ⭐️⭐️
Is struggling to justify his price tag at present but is certainly not helped by the ineptitude alongside him at the centre of defence.

Ashley Williams ⭐️
All at sea and caught out of position far to often. The Spurs attack and midfield had the freedom of Goodison Park with the Everton defence appearing unable to pick up a runner into the box.

Cuco Martina ⭐️
Really struggled against Ben Davies who was afforded far too much room on the Spurs left. Looked better going forward but his primary role is to defend and he wasn’t good enough today.

Idrissa Gana Gueye ⭐️⭐️
Almost unrecognisable in comparison to his good start to the season. Looked lost and didn’t appear able to track the runs of Delle Alli and Christian Eriksson.

Morgan Schniederlin ⭐️⭐️
Like his midfield partner, Schniederlin was not at the races. Spurs passed through the lines with ease. If Everton are going to compete with the top six they need Schniederlin to step up his game.

Davy Klaassen ⭐️
Rightly pulled at halftime. The Dutchman is struggling to adapt to the Premier League and was very careless in possession. Will get better but on current form he shouldn’t be in the starting eleven.

Gylfi Sigurdsson ⭐️⭐️
Tried hard but Everton’s lack of possession meant he was unable to stamp his authority on the game.

Wayne Rooney ⭐️⭐️
He looked liked the events of the last two weeks were weighing heavily on his shoulders. Worked hard but Everton need more.

Sandro Ramirez ⭐️⭐️
A little unlucky to be substituted at half time with Everton having so little possession in the opposition half.

Subs
Tom Davies ⭐️⭐️
Did enough to earn a starting place on Thursday but like the rest of the midfield he struggled to match the movement in the Spurs midfield and was a little careless on the ball as he tried to force the Toffees back into the match.

Dominic Calvert Lewin ⭐️⭐️
He has been the brightest spark of Everton’s season and although he livened things up with his work rate, Everton continued to look toothless in attack.

Nikola Vlasic ⭐️⭐️
Desperate to impress but not given long enough to make a significant impact.
