Everton picked up a good point away at Manchester City, but left Eastlands disappointed after letting a one goal lead slip late in the game despite having an extra man for most of the second half. Player ratings are listed below.
Jordan Pickford ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (all ratings out of five)
Another top performance from Everton’s new number one. Powerless to prevent the City goal but made one outstanding save when the game was still 1-0 to Everton. Distribution was again great, although one clearance did place the Blues under pressure.
Michael Keane ⭐️⭐️
Not his best game in an Everton shirt and got caught under the ball on a couple of occasions but improved as the game went on and had a good second half.
Phil Jagielka ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A strong performance from the Everton skipper. Made a couple of outstanding blocks, in particular sliding to deny Aguero when the Argentine looked certain to score.
Ashley Williams ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Unlucky to be sacrificed as Koeman looked to gain control of the midfield. A good solid performance from the Welsh captain.
Leighton Baines ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Relatively quiet going forward, Baines was very good in defence. Looks in really good form at the start of the season.
Mason Holgate ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Prior to the poor defensive header which allowed City to equaliser he was Everton’s best defender on the pitch. Perfectly justified Koeman’s selection.
Idrissa Gana Gueye ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Partnered well with Schniederlin to keep David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne quiet, but struggled to keep possession, especially in the second half when City took hold of the midfield.
Morgan Schniederlin ⭐️⭐️
A red card late on will mean he misses the Chelsea match. Marshalled David Silva for most the match but as with Gana didn’t do enough when in possession.
Tom Davies ⭐️⭐️
Found it hard work. He never stopped running and linked well with Calvert Lewin but it wasn’t a surprise to see him substituted in the second half.
Wayne Rooney ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Scored his 200th Premier League goal and his second in two League matches this season. Worked tirelessly, covering more ground then any other player on the pitch.
Dominic Calvert Lewin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
City struggled to handle his pace throughout the ninety minutes. Held the ball up really well and got an assist for Rooney’s goal, calmly picking out his teammate in the box.
Gylfi Sigurdsson ⭐️⭐️
Lacked match fitness but that will come in time.
Davy Klaassen ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Made a fantastic last gasp clearance to deny David Silva a chance to win the game in the final minutes.
Mo Besic (not on the pitch long enough to earn a rating)
