The first half was superb, Everton purred throughout the opening 45 minutes and should have been ahead by more than the two goals that separated the sides. The second period was not as strong, but the Blues remained resolute and will take a two goal cushion to Croatia for next weeks second leg.
Jordan Pickford ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The goalkeeper hardly put a foot wrong. Three fabulous second half saves and an example of his wonderful distribution only enhanced his growing reputation amongst Evertonians.
Leighton Baines ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The skipper was superb, brilliant in defence and a threat throughout going forward. An assist was the least he deserved.
Cuco Martina ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A good performance that will start to silence some of the doubters. Linked well with Lookman on the right and was comfortable on the ball throughout the 90 minutes.
Michael Keane ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Rolls Royce of a defender. A goal and another imperious defensive performance. Looks like the future of the Toffees defence. Superb!
Ashley Williams ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Played really well. Must be feeling the pressure and competition for places but upped his game. Aside from one slip he was almost faultless.
Idrissa Gana Gueye ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
He just never stops. Combative and good on the ball he topped another impressive performance with a goal. At times he was caught he possession trying to do too much, but such is his work rate he almost always wins in straight back.
Morgan Schniederlin 🌟⭐️⭐️⭐️
The big Frenchman was back to his best. Subbed at half time due to a yellow card, the ex Manchester United man was on top of his game and enjoyed himself with a couple of fantastic cross field passes.
Davy Klaassen ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Dutchman still has work to do to convince the Goodison crowd, but he showed glimpses of his talent, especially his work rate and ability to arrive late in the box.
Kevin Mirallas ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Frustrated to be substituted late on, Mirallas was effective throughout and looked a threat. Needs to be more productive but his added pace made Everton a greater threat.
Ademola Lookman ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Here is a player desperate to impress and he did enough to warrant further opportunities. The England u20 international is a constant menace, with his pace and trickery, but he needs to add consistent end product to his game.
Wayne Rooney ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Played well in the first half and should of scored when played through by Klaassen. Rooney played a huge part in Everton’s second but couldn’t reach those standards in the second half as he became increasingly frustrated by the regular lifting of the linesman’s flag.
Tom Davies ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Did ok, tough to come on when the game is all but won. Increasingly influential as the Croats tired, he has put a thought in the Managers mind ahead of the next match away at Manchester City.
Dominic Calvert Lewin ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another lively sub appearance. Really starting to see why he is so highly rated by Koeman and Walsh.
Muhamed Besic (not on long enough for a rating).
