Jordan Pickford ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Everton have finally found a true successor to the great Neville Southall. Early days indeed, but Pickford has the total command of his penalty area and provided an outstanding save in injury time to keep the Blues ahead.
Michael Keane ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another new boy who played well to keep a very physical Stoke at bay. He lost a tooth for the cause which typifies his committed approach. Will play better but a good start against tough opposition.
Phil Jagielka ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Solid and dependable and the pick of the Everton defenders.
Ashley Williams ⭐️⭐️
Struggled in a back three and was correctly substituted as Koeman changed his tactical approach for the second half. Struggling to see a regular spot in the side for the former Swansea man.
Leighton Baines ⭐️⭐️
Not at his best and was exposed at wing back by an early Stoke attack, but as always he gave his all and was better after the break in a more conventional left back position.
Dominic Calvert Lewin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Started and struggled at right wing back although he did provide the assist for Rooney’s goal. Was brilliant in a forward role in the second half and demonstrated why he is so highly thought of by Koeman and the management team. His work rate almost brought him a goal and he will be an important player for Everton this season.
Idrissa Gana Gueye ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Superb in midfield, tenacious, tackled hard, kept the ball moving and was involved in the flowing move that led to the goal.
Morgan Schniederlin ⭐️⭐️
Did ok and improved after the break but Everton’s midfield will need to improve in the coming weeks. The French international is integral to the way Koeman wants Everton to play and it was no surprise to see the Blues off the pace when Schniederlin struggled.
Davy Klaassen ⭐️⭐️
Will need time to adapt and settle to the English game but showed glimpses of his vast potential. His selfless run into the box pulled away the Stoke defence to allow Rooney to score totally unmarked.
Wayne Rooney ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What more can be said. After a quiet opening 45 minutes he burst to life in injury time, starting and finishing an Everton attack with a brilliant header into the far corner. For the next 30 minutes he was superb and offered a glimpse of what is to come as his fitness levels improve.
Sandro Ramirez ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A baptism of fire in the English game lining up against a strong Stoke defence. He worked tirelessly and was another involved in the Rooney goal. Will get better.
Cuco Martina ⭐️⭐️
An improved display but still has much to do if he is to win over the sceptical Goodison crowd.
Tom Davies ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Unlucky to start on the bench and took his frustrations out on the opposition with some crunching tackles. Certainly in with a chance of starting in midweek.
Kevin Mirallas ⭐️⭐️
Didn’t have much time to impress but looked dangerous against a tiring Stoke defence.
