Klaassen to be a Goodison success story

Davy Klaassen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

Fee: £23.6m
Former Club: Ajax Amsterdam

Although Davy Klaassen wasn’t at his best in the 2nd leg of the Europa League qualifier against Ruzomberok he demonstrated exactly why Ronald Koeman was so keen to add his productivity to the Everton midfield, with a perfect through ball and assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s winner.

The jury will remain out on Klaassen, primarily as he joins from the Dutch Erevidisie, which is a step below the Premier League, but his performances in guiding Ajax to last seasons Europa League final perfectly demonstrate why he should be a success at Everton. His endless energy and his ability to arrive late into the box to score vital goals (20 League and cup goals last season) will add an extra dimension to Everton’s play. Early performances in a Blue shirt show that he is not blessed with pace, but his link up work with Wayne Rooney, particularly in the 1st leg, was excellent. He was more subdued in Slovakia, with the gap between the midfield and Everton’s attacking players to great, but with the Toffees playing with little tempo he was prepared to move the ball quickly and accurately to another blue shirt. He will need to provide more, but a solid if unspectacular start.

Everton remain on the look out for additional creative options and Gylfi Sigurdsson looks certain to arrive from Swansea. Despite these further additions I expect Klaassen to become a firm fans favourite and a regular in midfield, maybe even playing slightly deeper against lesser opposition. The Evertonians have always taken to players who are prepared to work hard for the shirt and Klaassen will certainly give his all for the Blues.
