On a disappointing night at Goodison Park the lack of depth in the Everton squad was cruelly exposed by a confident and resilient Norwich City. This was the first setback in what has been a very positive start to the Ronald Koeman era, but a scratch below the service left the Blues with little or no quality in front of goal.
The out of sorts Ross Barkley often made the wrong decision as did Gerard Deulofeu who lacked conviction. Both dallied on the ball when better options were available and took speculative shots when others were better placed.
The experiment to play Funes Mori at left back failed, with the Argentine blunting Everton’s attacking intent on the left hand side and Enner Valencia was starved of service on his full debut, especially from the flanks, with the final ball lacking quality.
All in all a very disappointing night!
