Leighton Baines has hinted that the chemistry between the players is non existent and from observing Everton’s performance in the insipid defeat to Manchester United it would appear that the bond that lifted Everton from mid table mediocrity to regular European competitors during the David Moyes era has all but vanished.
The Blues have lost their spirit and unfortunately the players are taking to the pitch and playing for their own means rather than for the benefit of Everton. Unless Roberto Martinez can find a remedy for this current malaise then his time at Everton will come to an end sooner rather than later.
Let’s however not forget that Moyes himself
found himself in a similar situation back in the summer of 2004. The Blues had just endured a disastrous season where they finished just one place outside the relegation zone. The players were deeply unhappy with Radzinski and Rooney deciding that their careers would be better advanced elsewhere. Rather than throw in the towel, Moyes rallied his troops, brought them closer together and guided Everton to an unlikely fourth place finish. All is not lost, but the clock is ticking and Martinez needs to find an answer quickly if he is to have a future at Goodison Park.
