At time of writing!
First, there are dozens of articles about Stones handing in a transfer request……where did that start and why is everyone writing like it is gospel. A frustrating time for Evertonians, especially while we wait for the club to confirm what is happening!
There are still plenty of potential players moving to Goodison Park. As the chances of Yarmolenko fade there are two other newer links that are starting to be more widely reported.
Iturbe from Roma: The first potential signing is Argentinian Juan Iturbe. Currently plying his trade for Roma, the 22 year old has been displaced in the lineup with the arrival of Mohamed Salah from Chelsea. The young attacking midfielder can play on both the left and right side of the field and is always willing to take a look at goal. He played one game for Paraguay but has since returned to the fold for his native Argentina. He joined Roma from Verona and had also played for Porto.
Chances of Iturbe arriving: 60%
Do I want it to happen: 70%
Iturbe is being sold by Roma and the sporting director for Roma, Walter Sabatini, has been in London and has reportedly speaking with both Everton and West Ham. Iturbe has previously been linked with Arsenal. The expected fee should be in the same range as the £15 million that was being quoted for Yarmolenko. He doesn’t have the reputation that the Dynamo Kiev player but he has broken into the Argentinian national team and did play 37 times for Roma last season.
Leandro Rodriguez: Another South American has been heavily linked with Everton and was also mentioned by Martinez in the buildup to the Barnsley game. The rumours of the young Uruguayan striker has been building over the weekend and Martinez was quoted as saying,
” He is a young striker with an incredible potential, playing for River in Uruguay.”
Over the weekend his River Plate Montevideo coach was said,
“He is gone. (The) Club told me of an offer from Everton. He deserves it.”
Chances of Rodriguez arriving: 90%
Do I want it to happen: 60%
Here is another younger player who would be ‘one for the future’ who would certainly bolster the bench. It is being reported that Everton have agreed a deal for about £500,000 and must have impressed someone to be on a Premier League team’s radar.
“He’s a very talented young man,” said Martinez. “He’s one of those that when we try to go from window to window we keep an eye on that potential, someone who could reach great heights with the first team. We have the permission of his club. At the minute, we have nothing to announce, but he would fit into that outstanding young talent like Mason Holgate and he’s a player we would love to get a positive outcome on.”
Update on Funes Mori: Martinez confirmed before the Barnsley game that he believes the reported work permit issues will not hinder this deal from going through. Mori was at Goodison for the game against City and this one should be concluded shortly.

I am a testament to the fact that Evertonians are born. My first matches were spent sitting on one of the crush bars in the Gladwys Street end watching the Holy Trinity weaving their magic on their way to the league championship in 1970. After moving to Canada it was hard to stay connected but the popularity of the game has increased and the internet now allows me to see every game live and keep up with all things Everton.
