Bryan Oviedo will make his first start of the season at Barnsley in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup second round match at Oakwell, Roberto Martinez has revealed. The Costa Rican has struggled to gain match fitness after appearing as a substitute against Watford on the opening day of the Premier League but now has an opportunity to claim his place in the team following Brendan Galloway’s injury against Manchester City.
“Bryan Oviedo will start. Bryan has been really unfortunate over the last year or so but he’s been working really hard in training.” said Martinez. “He was fantastic in training yesterday and he has an opportunity. We are all very excited to see him enjoying his football again.”
On Brendan Galloway the boss said:
“Brendan Galloway is the only big doubt that we have. As we know, he had to come off [on Sunday] and, for him to leave the pitch, it is not something we can solve overnight. He doesn’t want to be ruled out yet but I consider him as a major doubt.”
Galloway is expected to be fit for England U21 duty early next month after receiving his first call up on Tuesday morning.
