As a summer of relative discontent draws to a close, the long suffering Evertonians are finally receiving some good news. James McCarthy and Kevin Mirallas have committed their long term futures to the club after months of speculation linking them with transfers elsewhere and if the rumours are to be believed, Everton are set to make their move in an attempt to lift themselves of the foot of the hotly contested ‘Sky Sports News HQ’ summer transfer league table.
When last season drew to a close, their were strong murmerings in some quarters suggesting that Roberto Martinez had lost the dressing room. There was talk of player revolts and secret player meetings to discuss changes to tactics and throughout the summer the tabloid newspapers have enjoyed a field day, jumping on Everton’s disappoitng league form to suggest that several of Everton’s highly talented squad were looking to secure their future away from Goodison Park.
Kevin Mirallas we were told could no longer work with the manager following a huge falling out after his penalty miss against West Brom.
James McCarthy felt betrayed after the club broke several promises over the improvement and renewal of his contract and was desperate for a move to Spurs!
Luke Garbutt had become disallusioned with the lack of first team opportunities (behind England’s first choice left back) and was off across Stanley Park to join Brendan Rodgers team of jokers.
As it turns out all of this couldn’t be further from the truth. Indeed all three have signed new contracts and in doing so have provided the strongest possible hint that The squad firmly believe in Roberto Martinez and his possession based philosophy.
