Roberto Martinez has used his pre-match press conference for the match with West Brom on Monday to confirm that he will be adding a striker to his Everton squad before the end of the January transfer window.
Following the sale of Nikica Jelavic to Hull City, Everton are a little short upfront, particularly considering Arouna Kone is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. That leaves Everton with only on loan striker Romelu Lukaku and the relatively unproven Apostolos Vellios as recognised strikers, although the Blues do possess one or two players who could fill in should it be required. Kevin Mirallas, in particular has been spoken about as a player capable of operating in a more central attacking role.
Martinez is determined that the Blues will not be left short and has put together a list of 10 or more names of possible targets. The Spaniard is determined that any signing fits seamlessly into the group and does not want to sign anyone who could possibly upset Everton pursuit at the top of the Premier League table.
The Everton manager wouldn’t reveal any names, but did promise to work tirelessly to get his man. With a fortnight of the window remaining, Martinez explained that the hunt may well continue right up to the deadline, although he would like to get his business done as soon as realistically possible.
