Roberto Martinez has used his press conference ahead of the match with Arsenal to confirm that he plans to be busy during the January transfer window. With Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone both suffering long-term injuries he is keen to strengthen his squad to ensure it is capable of meeting the demands of a full season.
“We are going to use the window in January to try to help the team because we lost two players for the long-term.
“Arouna and Darron are two very important players for us so we will try to see if we can identify one or two players that can help the group.
“We have been working hard to identify who can help the group and that is what we are looking for in January.”
The press have already been quick to suggest potential transfer targets, with Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeedy again linked with a move to Goodison Park. The Irishman is out of contract in the summer, but Spartak are eager to agree a January sale in order to recoup some of the £11.5m they paid Celtic for his signature.
In the summer, Everton narrowly missed out on FC Porto midfielder Fernando and Martinez may consider a fresh approach for the Brazilian. The combative defensive midfield player is sure to be in demand with his contract also set to expire in July.
The Blues have also been linked with loan deals for American duo, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, although LA Galaxy have been quick to deny that Donovan, who has already enjoyed two successful loan spells with the Toffees is available for transfer.
