Top 10 (Everton-Liverpool) Merseyside Derby goals – Part 1

Ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby we have looked back through our video archive to bring you our 10 favourite goals from previous encounters between Everton and Liverpool. In part one we have goals from Cahill, Ferguson, Kanchelsis, Cottee and Dacourt.

Cahill

10. Tim Cahill (Anfield 2008-09)

Everton were trailing 1-0 to a Steven Gerrard goal before Tim Cahill popped up with an 87th minute equaliser at Anfield. The carnage in the Anfield Road end was brilliant as the Evertonians celebrated a brilliant and deserved point.

9. Andrei Kanchelskis (Anfield 1995-96)

The first of two goals scored by Kanchelskis in this brilliant 2-1 win over the Reds. The move started on the edge of the Blues’ penalty area, but the lightning quick counter attack finished with a brilliantly taken header from Kanchelsksis.

8. Duncan Ferguson (Goodison Park 1994-95)

Everton were rock bottom and Liverpool flying towards the top of the table, but Everton produced a brilliant performance in Joe Royle’s first match as manager of the Blues to win 2-0. Duncan Ferguson gave Everton the lead with his first goal for the club.

7. Tony Cottee (Goodison Park 1990-91)

The third Everton goal in the brilliant 4-4 draw in the FA Cup 5th Round was scored in the final minute of the 90 to level the tie at 3-3. Tony Cottee on as a sub scored the goal, curling the ball past a despairing Grobalaar in the Liverpool goal.

6. Olivier Dacourt (Anfield 1998-99)

The brilliant Frenchman opened the scoring at Anfield inside the first minute. An outstanding strike from the edge of the box left David James in the Liverpool goal with no chance.
