Our daily Everton in the 80s feature looks back on this day in the 1985-86 season. Howard Kendall’s side were looking to defend their Division One Championship, but after a difficult start to the season the Blues find themselves battling to catch Manchester United and Liverpool at the top of the table.


Everton edge a 7 goal thriller at Portman Road, coming from behind to beat Ipswich 4-3. Goals from Heath, Sharp, Sheedy and Steven (pen) seal the win.

Full team : Southall, Stevens, Van Den Hauwe, Ratcliffe, Harper, Heath, Steven, Lineker, Sharp, Bracewell, Sheedy. Everton remain 6th.
