Goodison Gossip – Martinez to make January loan more for ex Spur Dempsey
Reports in today’s newspapers have re-ignited the possibility of a January loan move for USA international midfield player Clint Dempsey. The ex-Fulham and Tottenham man left the Premier League in the summer for a move home to the MLS where he has been playing for Seattle Sounders. With the Sounders out of the MLS end of season play-offs, Dempsey has begun to look for a close season loan move back to England.
Everton, along with Aston Villa and former club Tottenham, are all attributed with an interest in the attacking midfielder, who would certainly offer a goal threat wherever he ends up. The transfer would be similar in construction to the short-term deals that resulted in Landon Donovan spending two spells with the Blues.
Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer said:
“Clint’s contract allows him to go on loan for the off-season.
“All parties are working on a deal and we won’t be surprised if it happens.”
It would represent a good loan signing for whoever is successful in the chase, particularly through the busy January and February schedule, with several Premier League and FA Cup fixtures during this period. Martinez is said to be keen, particularly with the opportunity to give Ross Barkley a rest should the need arise.
