Our regular Obstructed View columnist, Ross Crombie has had a look at the every decreasing careers of Francisco Junior, Magaye Gueye and Apostolos Vellios.
It is nice to get Loan Watch on the official site, and the news that Junior wasn’t involved for Vitesse surprised me, so I dug a little deeper. It turns out he was on the bench, but an unused sub on Saturday in a 2-2 draw that still leaves Vitesse a little off the early pace. I must admit, I thought he would get more game time there, but only 2 appearances to date. Do they not rate him? After his poor performance on a horrid night in Leeds last year, his only 45 mins of first team football hardly endeared him to the Everton faithful. But in note he came back, played well for the U21s, scored the odd screamer, and looked to be building his game. But I thought he cut a lonely figure on the pre season games, and especially in the U 21 coverage on YouTube – lads, and Stubbs, messing about, but he didn’t seem to be engaged and fully involved in it. I wonder if Vitesse will be the making of the man, or a signal to end his Everton career.
Magaye Gueye is another mystery. From what I can tell, his loan spell last season back to France was no success, he played a bit of pre season for us, even miraculously found himself on the bench for the Seniors on one occasion, but now he has completely disappeared. Is he injured? So out of favour he isn’t even being loaned? Not even featuring for the 21s. Strange one. Personally not been impressed with his appearances to date, clearly a big strong lad, but doesn’t seem to be Premier standard.
And then there’s the best Greek player we have ever had. I think he might be the only one! Where is Vellios? I follow him on twitter, but no idea why because all his posts are Greek to me, literally, and occasionally you see him pop up in Everton 2 or 1 to sign a shirt or two, or turn up at the Fan zone as he did last week. But no game time for the U21s. Is he injured too? Or is he just behind Hope and Long (sound more like a firm of solicitors than a footballing strike force)? In which case, get him out on loan!
Where are these missing, promising young players?
