Everton have lined up FC Porto’s midfielder Fernando Reges as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini should the Belgium complete an expected move to Manchester United.
The 26-year-old is highly rated in Portugal and has played for FC Porto since he moved from Brazil in 2007. Fernando is believed to have a release fee of €30m in his contract, but with just one year remaining on that deal, Everton are confident of sealing a move at £12m.
The midfield player has a combative style, using his long legs to make numerous sliding tackles. This has earned him the nickname “The Octopus” and he would be used in a defensive midfield capacity.
He is yet to feature for Brazil and therefore Everton have sought special dispensation for a work permit. It has been widely reported that the Blues were successful in achieving the necessary paperwork and will push through the deal as soon as the Fellaini deal is complete.
