Arouna Kone is expected to become Everton’s first summer signing and the first of the Roberto Martinez era, with the formalities of the deal set to be tied up over the weekend.
The Ivorian was at Finch Farm on Friday to complete his medical and with a fee and personal terms already agreed it remains just a matter of time before the deal is complete.
Kone, who scored 13 goals in his debut season in English football, is enjoying the best period of his football career. Prior to joining Wigan, Kone scored 17 goals in the 2011/12 season playing for Lavente in the Spanish La Liga.
Everton have beaten off competition from Newcastle and Swansea for his signature and have agreed to pay £5 million to activate the release clause negotiated into his Wigan contract.
