Ahead of the match with Oldham Athletic we thought we would try the new Everton Publications App, which brings the Official Match Day Programme into the digital age.
First impressions are really good, for first time users registration is required, but unlike a number of forms, only 4 fields require completion. A number of subscription options are supposedly available, although we could only see two, 1 years subscription at £27.99 or the one we chose, a single edition at £1.99. For this price, not only do you get a full electronic version of the programme, you also gain access to additional interactive options courtesy of EvertonTV.
Once you have purchased an edition, you can access it from any platform, whether that be iPad, iPhone, or a laptop, simply by entering your registration details.
Now we are fans of a match day programme, and I personally have over 500 from the last 30 years stored away in my loft space. However, I have overtime grown out of buying the programme and this is the first time I have bought or even read the Everton match day programme this season. I have to say I was impressed. Obviously you have the number of adverts that cover the cost of producing such a glossy publication, but the programme is jam packed with interviews from players past and present.
The move to an electronic format has re-invigorated an interest in a dying media. I will certainly give it another try and would consider an annual subscription for the new season. It would be nice to have access to other club publications through this channel, whether that be the Evertonian magazine, books or one off specials. All in all a very positive move from the club and for those unable to make it to Goodison for every match a chance to feel part of the match day experience. Well done to all involved.
