Memories of Psycho Pat and Kev the Rat as Everton travel to Norwich

Everton begin a season defining fortnight, with a trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City. Ahead of the midweek cup replay with Oldham, Everton are desperate to get their bid for a top four finish back on track with a much needed three points on the road.

psycho pat

After the disappointment of losing at Old Trafford 2 weeks ago, Everton know nothing less than three points will be good enough to maintain their faint hopes of Champions League qualification next season. With Tottenham not in action until Monday night, Saturday presents an excellent opportunity for 6th placed Everton to close the gap on their Champions League rivals.

Everton have a relatively mixed record at Carrow Road, but will look to take advantage of the Canaries poor form to take all three points back to Merseyside. Few will need reminding that one of Everton’s greatest moments occurred on this ground, when a solitary goal from Pat Van Den Hauwe was enough to secure Everton their 9th league title back in 1987. The second of our video’s this week looks back at that moment, including the post match interview with Howard Kendall, as the then Everton manager reflected on a second title in three years.

Prior to that we go back to 1982-83 and the visit of a young Everton side to Norfolk. Everton won the game 1-0, with a very rare goal from Kevin Ratcliffe. In fact this was his first for the club, his second and final goal coming against Liverpool three years later. Also worth a look, is the terrible perm sported by Graeme Sharp!!!
