When we were Champions

This summer represents 18 years since the Blues last picked up silverwear. Back in 1995 Everton, managed by Joe Royle, defeated Manchester United 1-0 to win the FA Cup in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium.

That victory ended an 8 year wait for a trophy, a period which was almost unheard of as Everton were rightly seen as one of the biggest clubs in English Football. Now, trophy less years are almost accepted, but Evertonians remain hungry for success and will be excited at the prospect of a possible run to Wembley in this years FA Cup.

Back in the 1980’s Evertonians took success for granted. Trips to Wembley became an annual affair and the Goodison trophy room was decorated with trophy after trophy. Via our YouTube channel we look back at those glory years and in particular the two league title triumphs in 1985 and 1987.

These fantastic videos show the celebrations at Goodison on securing the title, capturing the sounds and scenes that the younger generation of Evertonians can only dream off. I was present at the second of these celebrations, in what was my younger brothers first taste of Goodison. At that time we thought it would continue forever!
