Phil Jagielka has signed a new contract with Everton that will keep the England centre back at Everton until 2017.
The signing represents an excellent deal for the Toffees and Jagielka will be the bedrock of the Everton defence for many years to come. With the Everton defence being far from secure this season, Jagielka is likely to be lining up with a new centre back partner in the not too distant future. Joleon Lescott has been linked with a return to Goodison and Norwegian defender Vegard Forren is another name in the press. Whether Everton have the financial resources to secure either of those deals remains uncertain, however with Heitinga’s future far from certain at the club and Sylvain Distin in the twilight of his career, it is reassuring to know that Jagielka has committed his long-term future to the club.
