Evertonians have endured the first negative day in almost 5 months with defeat at The Hawthornes bringing everyone crashing down to earth. All the talk up to now has been of top 4 finishes and Champions League football, what today has demonstrated is that the blues are far from the finished article.
We shouldn’t be too hard on the boys. Many would have taken 6 points at this stage of the season and with the new recruits still settling in, or in some cases yet to arrive, the season will only get better. Today the early loss of Darren Gibson proved instrumental. Up until that moment Everton were dominating play, moving the ball quickly and looking the most likely side to pick up the 3 points. Hopefully the arrival of the Belgium international Odjidja-Ofoe will provide the necessary depth for the toffees to cope with injuries in midfield and prevent further disappointing defeats like today’s.
In truth too many players had an off day, many have apologised on Twitter, but this isn’t necessary. We are Everton, we win together, we lose together. We must now move on, learn from the experience and ensure the disappointment of defeat becomes an unfamiliar feeling. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.
