No I am not talking about this season (although the way we started against Manchester United you never know), I am talking about our last win at Villa Park, the day Everton convinced me and 3000 thousand Evertonians that the team had the necessary ability to secure the 4th place league finish and Champions League football.
26th February 2005, the greatest Everton away performance of the David Moyes era. Cahill, Osman and the recently recruited Mikel Arteta ripped Villa apart that day, playing breath-taking football to end an 18 year Villa Park hoodoo. The scoreline flattered Villa, who deserved nothing from the game. Cahill and Osman twice were the goal scorers, on a day that will live long in the memory.
Unfortunately since that day our record at Villa has at best been poor. A couple of disappointed and lack luster defeats, with a few draws sandwiched in between leave Everton looking for only their second win away at Villa in 25 years. On recent form there is nothing to suggest we can’t continue our positive start to the season. We must beware an Aston Villa team playing their first home match under the tutelage of Paul Lambert, but this Everton side will take some beating. I for one cannot wait for the trip to Birmingham on Saturday, let’s hope we are all out celebrating another 3 points on Saturday night. COYB!!!
